Constitution Day Talk with Dr. Kevin Gutzman

September 18, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 6:15 pm EDT

“James Madison:  Constitutionalist” with Dr. Kevin Gutzman
At age 25, James Madison found himself the youngest man in the Virginia Convention that made Virginia the first colony to declare independence, wrote the first American declaration of rights, and wrote the first American constitution—the Virginia Declaration of Rights and Constitution of 1776. His effect in that assemblage was monumental, and through the rest of his long political career, he would take the lead in writing, ratifying, implementing, and laying out one of the two classic approaches to interpreting the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights as well.
