Clemson Student Life and Wellness Narcan Training Lecture
October is Substance Use Prevention month and GSG is partnering with Clemson Healthy Campus to teach Clemson students and staff how they might be able to save the life of someone experiencing an opioid overdose. In this training course, Kelley Metcalfe of Healthy Campus will be provide training for how to use the ONEbox units found across campus.
Naloxone (also known by the brand name Narcan®) is a life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose/poisoning from opioids when given in time. It works quickly by blocking the effects of opioids and restoring normal breathing within minutes. It is also safe to use, even if opioids are not present.
Narcan® is available for emergency use in many buildings on Clemson University’s main campus and can be found inside purple ONEbox units. ONEbox, an emergency opioid overdose reversal kit, includes on-demand training on how to respond to an overdose emergency and use Narcan®.
