What happens if my key is lost or stolen?
This would cause a lock change charge from University Housing. Most often, this is due to a lost key or a temporary key that is not returned by the deadline. The housing contract states: "If a key is lost or not returned when occupancy is terminated, or if a temporary key is not returned within the required time, the door lock(s) will be re-cored and new keys will be made at the responsible resident's expense.
We do our best to hold residents responsible for the safety of their own key. We sometimes do charge students for stolen keys, but we will request information about each situation to determine the best course of action.
