LLC Overview

Passport is an engaging and inclusive community for first-year students from all majors who are passionate about languages and curious to learn more about different cultures. Housed in the College of Arts & Humanities, Passport invites you to “Meet the World”

through cultural events, shared meals, and opportunities to connect with campus resources and peers who support language learning and cultural exploration.

Designed to bring together students from diverse backgrounds, Passport offers a relaxed space to connect with friends who share your curiosity about the world and engage in meaningful opportunities to share, learn, and grow through global perspectives.

Whether you’re fluent in a language, studying one, or simply excited to explore different cultures, there’s a place for you here.

Cultural and Engaging Activities: Discovering global cuisine through events like enjoying authentic sopes and crafting Spanish tapas. They’ve also participated in unique cultural opportunities, such as learning about the history of tamales and theremins, attending a study abroad roundtable, and joining a language majors’ ice cream social to connect with peers.
Cultural Exchange Opportunities: Volunteering at the Hispanic Heritage Festival and Clemson’s Día de los Muertos events or connecting with the campus Conversation Pairs Program to practice languages and build friendships with international students.
Guest Speakers and Discussions: Gaining insights on intercultural competency and bias from experts in the field.
Exploring the Arts: Attending performances at the Brooks Center with fellow Passport students.

Over 2,500 students study languages here. Learning another language doesn’t just look great on a resume- it boosts your confidence, sharpens your critical thinking, enhances your adaptability, and helps you become a global citizen.

Build your global toolkit.

At Clemson, you can study various languages, including ASL, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. Pair a B.A. in a language with other degree programs or explore unique majors in the College of Arts & Humanities, like a B.A. in Language and International Business or a B.S. in Language and International Health. No matter your career path, knowing another language gives you an edge and opens doors you never knew existed. After all, have you met anyone who regrets learning another language?

What’s Passport Like?

Passport LLC is more than just a place to live—it’s a community where students connect over languages, cultures, and shared experiences. As a member of Passport, you’ll have the chance to shape your experience through exciting events and opportunities that reflect your interests.

“As a Language and International Health major, living in a hall with multiple cultural backgrounds is so rewarding to me … I know that in my future job, I will want to be able to relate to as many cultures as possible, and I think that by living in Passport I really get to embrace that and learn so much that is applicable to not only [my major] but also to my future career.”

–Restrictions: Open to all first-year students passionate about languages and cultures.

-Location: Gressette Hall (coed)

-Roommate Policy: Students may only request roommates who are also Passport LLC participants. The good news? It’s open to any major! On your housing roommate profile, mention that you’d like to be in Passport LLC and include the language(s) you’d like to practice with your roommate.

-Size: 20-30 students

Resources

When will I select my housing assignment?

Selection times are different for Bridge, First Year, Continuing and Transfer students, please check our events for the latest information.

Where can I view my housing assignment?

Once you have selected your housing assignment, you may view your assignment at anytime on the Housing Portal.

May I request another incoming first-year student as a roommate?

Yes. You will have the option to request one roommate of your choice. You will create and confirm your 2-person roommate group in step one of the sign-up process.

Do I have to live on campus?

All unmarried, first-year and Bridge students who are under the age of 21 at the time of enrollment who do not live with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) [within Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties] are required to live in University-owned housing for the fall and spring semesters.

Incoming first-year students who desire a residency waiver, and meet all of the specified requirements, must complete the appeals form.

Transfer students are not considered first-year students and are not required to live on campus. Transfer students are not guaranteed housing and will be assigned on available space.
