UNIVERSITY HOUSING & DINING

Winter Break

Post-Thanksgiving & Winter Break December 2020–January 2021

Check-Out Process

University Housing closes at 5pm on Sun. Nov 29, 2020 for those who have not requested to stay for the rest of fall semester. We strongly encourage students to not return to the campus or surrounding community following Thanksgiving. Staying away will minimize the risk of our students reintroducing the virus into the community after the Thanksgiving holiday and will reduce the likelihood of students needing to be quarantined into the year-end holiday period.

For those who have been approved to stay for the remainder of Fall semester, housing closes for Winter Break at 5 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 12, 2020. Residents may remain on campus throughout final exam week. Residents must depart for Winter Break no later than 5 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 12; residents who are graduating may remain on-campus until 10 a.m. on Fri., Dec. 18.

Residents that’s have extenuation circumstances and need to stay past Dec. 12 or Dec. 18 will be required to complete a Winter Break Last Stay request. This form will be emailed out on Dec. 3 to all residents who have been approved to stay past Nov. 29.

Before departing for break all residents should:

  • Remove items from floor(s)
  • Clean and vacuum/sweep their entire room/apartment
  • Clean dishes, etc. (dirty items should note be left in sinks)
  • Clean out refrigerator/freezer items that could go bad over break
  • Remove all trash and recycling to designated areas
  • Unplug all electronic devices (except fish tanks and fridges)
  • If your thermostat is adjustable, please set to 70° F
  • Lock windows, close blinds, turn off all lights
  • Close and lock door on the way out.

Residents in Calhoun Courts and Lightsey Bridge I will be required to return their keys prior to departing. Failure to do so will result in a $75 lock change fee. All other residents must retain their keys upon departure as all room and apartment doors will be locked for the duration of break.

University Housing staff may enter your room/apartment over the break period to complete inspections. Inspections are for the purpose of assessing the current condition of the space and/or to ensure that all electrical items are unplugged.

If you are moving out of Housing, and plan to depart on or before Nov. 29, please ensure ALL items are removed at your time of departure. Residents failure to do so could result in housing credit reversal.
