We hope you are as excited as we are for move-in weekend! It’s an exciting few days and it’ll be here before we know it. To make sure you are prepared to come to Clemson, make sure you read through and complete all of the items below. We can’t wait to welcome you to your new home and we’ll CU soon!
Make a Move-In Appointment
If you have not done so already, you need to sign up for a move-in appointment now.
To reduce traffic and time waiting in lines, we offer move-in times throughout the day. If you will be moving in between Tuesday, August 13 and Saturday, August 17, you must schedule a move-in appointment. Residents checking in after these times do not need to schedule an appointment and have until the first day of classes to check in. There will be enough timeslots for all residents of a particular building to move in on their assigned date if they choose to do so.

Our Favorite Sustainable Move-in Tip
As you plan to pack for your move to campus, remember “less is better”!
- Contact your roommate(s) prior to move-in to avoid duplication of items.
- Consider bringing items according to the season, then change out your wardrobe during Fall, Winter, and Spring Breaks!
How Can I Decorate Without Command Strips*?
While we know that Command strips are a staple for college housing, we have started to see damage in some of our res halls after constant long-term use of the strips on drywall. To make sure our living spaces continue to be well-maintained and attractive for all current and future residents, we do ask that you consider using alternatives if possible. We love when our residents personalize their spaces and show off their personalities, so check out this list of decorating options that have worked well for other students.
- High and Mighty Hooks* (for drywall only)
- White sticky tack for posters and pictures
- Tension rods for curtains and storage needs
- Over the door hooks for doors, beds, etc.
- Magnetic hooks for metal surfaces, including lofted bed
- Freestanding shelving (wire shelving can be versatile, portable, and may have hooks)
- Freestanding towel or drying rack
- Suction cup hooks for smooth surfaces
- Clamp hooks and shelves
- Push pins for lightweight items
- Monkey hooks* for heavier items
- Push pin hooks
We encourage you to get creative with your room and figure out ways to make it your own. There are plenty of options and you can always look online for more ideas!
Note: Some communities have cinder block walls and will not be able to use many of our alternatives. For these communities, damage will be minimal and command strips may be your best option. These communities include the Shoeboxes (Benet, Cope, Geer, Sanders, Young), Bryan Mall (Barnett, Byrnes, Lever, Manning, Mauldin, Smith) and Thornhill Village.
*Clemson Home is not endorsing any specific products. Brand names are used as common identifiers for general product types such as adhesive strips, drywall hooks, etc.
Label Your Boxes
We highly recommend that you label every bag, box and bin, so volunteers can better assist while unloading your vehicle. To make this easier for you, we’ve created a label template (shown below). Download this PDF document, type in your information, and print onto Avery (r) Template 5164/8164; alternatively, you can use regular printer paper and tape it to all of your items.

DH is used in front of the box number for Douthit Hills residents and SM is used for everyone else. Information about your P.O. Box assignment will be sent to your Clemson University email account by August 2. Please do not ship anything until you receive your P.O. Box assignment.
Student Mail Services will begin accepting packages on August 6 and will be open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. each weekday prior to move-in weekend for you to retrieve your items. Be mindful of your estimated delivery date and your move-in date, as packages should be picked up promptly upon receiving your notification email. Check the Move-in Schedule
Fall 2019 Move-In will be on Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17. Some groups may have an earlier approved arrival. We encourage you to review the following information for your specific move-in process and email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have prior to your arrival.
Tuesday, August 13
Women registered for CPC Recruitment will be able to move in between 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 13. Please complete your registration on the recruitment webpage. Be sure that you have done a move-in appointment and indicated that you plan to participate in recruitment. Affiliated women who are participating in CPC recruitment will be able to move in between 12 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13.
Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17
New students (first year and transfer) and continuing students may move in by assigned move-in dates, during scheduled move-in appointments between 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Please refer to your Clemson Home email regarding your assignment information and sign up via the provided move-in appointment link. Communities moving in on the 16th include Byrnes & Lever, Calhoun & Thornhill, Douthit East, Gressette & Mickel, and Holmes. Communities moving in on the 17th include Douthit West, Manning & Mauldin, Cribb & DesChamps, McCabe, Shoeboxes, Lightsey Bridge (Bridge) and Calhoun Courts (S1, S3, S5, S7–Bridge).
Early move-in is possible but requires an approved early-arrival request. Individual students should make a request based on a specific need. Click here to complete your request for early move-in. University approved groups such as Tiger Band do not need to submit a request; your information will be submitted through the sponsoring department.

Check the Move-In Driving Directions
To cut down on traffic for move-in weekend, Clemson Home and the Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) have worked together to create specific routes for each residential community. Even though you may be very familiar with campus or prefer to use a GPS, we have adjusted normal traffic patterns for Move-In Traffic. We will also have Police and Parking Officials stationed around campus directing traffic to move students in as quickly as possible. If you try to come in from a different direction, it could delay getting checked in to your new Clemson Home or you could be rerouted all the way around campus. Thank you for following all posted traffic signage during Move-In.

Get Your Unloading Pass and Parking Permit
Clemson Home and CUPD will allow you to park close to your community while unloading. To prevent delays, you will need to complete and print the unloading pass prior to arriving on-campus.
It is important that you follow the guidelines listed below:
- Each vehicle must have a completed unloading pass displayed so our staff and CUPD Officers can view the contact information.
- A driver will need to remain with the vehicle until all items are unloaded.
- As soon as the vehicle is unloaded, then move the vehicle to a designated parking location. On the back of the unloading pass is a map along with information about designated parking lots for move-in weekend.
- If you are a resident who will have a car on-campus throughout the academic year, you will need to purchase a parking permit from Parking and Transportation services. See links below in the parking permits section.
Know How to Identify Volunteers
Staff and Volunteers may be available at various residence halls to answer questions, provide directions, and assist you in the move-in process from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 16 and Saturday, August 17. Move-In Volunteers will often be wearing a move-in shirt with the design below, although many will not. All volunteers should have an orange wristband on Friday and a purple one on Saturday.

Understand Move-in Weekend Dining
Hours of Operation:
Beginning Friday, August 16 of Move-In Weekend you will be admitted to campus dining hall locations by presenting your TigerOne card. Meal plans will not be activated until Sunday, August 18, so you will not have access to guest meals or paw points. You will receive two meal tickets during move in for your parents, family or guests. If your guests need more than two meals (for additional guests or additional meals) they can pay the standard walk-up rates of $8.50 + tax (breakfast), $11.50 + tax (lunch) or $12.00 + tax (dinner).
Are you a first-year student living in University Housing? You should have selected one of the Unlimited meal plans (Unlimited 300, Unlimited 200 or Unlimited 100) for your first two semesters. Your meal plan will be uploaded to your student bill mid to late-July. If you wish to make any changes after your student bill is published in iROAR, you should do so through iROAR optional fees prior to making any payment toward your bill.
