SUMMARY:Greenwood ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Training + Exam
DESCRIPTION:A one-day review course using ServSafe® materials from the National Restaurant Association (NRA).  Taught by Clemson University Food Safety and Nutrition Experts who are certified ServSafe® Instructors with the NRA.  The course concludes with the ServSafe® Certification Exam.  Successful completion of the course and certification exam meets DHEC requirements for “Certified Food Protection Manager” under federal guidelines outlined in 2-102.12(B) of the FDA Food Code.  ServSafe® Manager Certification from the National Restaurant Association will be e-mailed to participants upon successful completion of the course and certification exam. The certification is valid for five years.  The cost of the course covers the exam and exam answer sheet. The book is not included in the price of the training + exam.  Coursebook: ServSafe® Manager Book 9th Edition should be purchased before coming to the course: ServSafe® Product Details (https://www.servsafe.com/access/SS/Catalog/ProductDetail/ES9) Books are also available at the Greenwood County Extension Office.  Participants should bring the course book with them on the day of training.  Course topics include: Challenges to Food Safety\, Microbiology\, Contamination\, Allergens\, Food Safety Systems\, The Flow of Food\, Maintaining Sanitary Facilities and Equipment\, Pest Management and Employee Training. DESCRIPTION:Dr. Melinda Grosser  Seminar Title: “Nucleotide signaling and the genetic basis of stress survival in Staphylococcus aureus”  Bio: Dr. Melinda Grosser is an Associate Professor of Biology at UNC Asheville\, a primarily undergraduate institution. She joined the faculty in 2019 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California Berkeley\, where she studied the pathogenesis of Pseudomonas aeruginosa during corneal infections. She earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology at UNC Chapel Hill\, where she investigated metabolic and genetic adaptations of Staphylococcus aureus to the host innate immune response. At UNC Asheville\, she teaches upper-level courses in Microbiology and Molecular Biology and directs a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) in which students build CRISPRi knockdown tools that feed directly into her research program. Her lab investigates how S. aureus survives host-derived stress\, with a focus on nucleotide-based signaling molecules that coordinate stress adaptation and virulence.
